Celestial Algorithmic: The Union of Sets
Visuals & Mechanism: The work presents a minimalist aesthetic: a dark void overlaid with a precise grid system. White nodes, behaving like planets or drifting stars, move autonomously across this space. A custom-built "detection agent" scans this environment. When the agent's detection field inter-sects with a node, it triggers a sonic event. This visualization is not pre-rendered but generated in real-time, ensuring that no two moments are visually or musically identical.
Sonic Architecture & Pitch Class Theory: The core of the sound engine is built upon Set Theory. I uti-lize two distinct Pitch Class Sets: [0, 1, 4, 6] (often associated with all-interval tetrachords or specific modernistic textures) and [0, 4, 6, 7]. The union of these sets, [0, 1, 4, 6, 7], creates a unique harmonic palette that is neither strictly tonal nor entirely atonal. It evokes a sense of cosmic mystery and suspen-sion.
Spatialization & Experience: The auditory experience is inextricably linked to the visual geography. The horizontal position of each "planet" directly modulates the stereo panning (or multi-channel spati-alization) of the sound. As a dot moves from left to right, the sound traverses the physical space of the exhibition hall. This creates an immersive environment where the audience can "hear" the movement of the light.
Concept: This work challenges the distinction between "Music" (composed, structured) and "Sound" (physical, phenomenon). By relying on an autonomous system to trigger these carefully selected pitch classes, the artist steps back, allowing the algorithm to perform the role of the composer. It is a study in emergence, where simple rules of movement and detection give rise to complex, evolving sound-scapes.
